Lijiang old town and Jade Dragon Snow Mountain

Canals, stone lanes and Naxi culture, with a snow mountain on the skyline.

Lijiang's old town is a UNESCO World Heritage site, known for its canals, wooden houses and the culture of the Naxi people. North of town, Jade Dragon Snow Mountain rises well above 5,000 m.

Suggested itinerary

  1. Day 1Train from Kunming, about three to four hours. An easy evening in the old town.
  2. Day 2Black Dragon Pool Park in the morning, with the mountain reflected in the water. Free afternoon.
  3. Day 3Baisha village and its old murals, or a day trip towards the mountain if your doctor agrees.
  4. Day 4Back to Kunming.

Good to know

Lijiang is noticeably higher than Kunming, and the cable cars on Jade Dragon Snow Mountain go much higher still. This trip is best saved for when your treatment is finished and your doctor says you're fine to travel to altitude.
